Cycling Gear For Safety and Comfort

January 8, 2010

Whether you are a professional cyclist, a hobbyist or just a beginner in cycling wearing the proper cycling gear is very important.  Wearing proper cycling gear is absolutely an indispensable element when you go out for cycling competition or just having some fun ride.  How can one feel both comfortable and safe without the minimum items that make bike riding care free and fun?
When buying a cycling gear, determine what you will need by asking yourself these three questions.

1. What is required by law?
2. What gear will be the most comfort for my bicycling plan?
3. What equipment is best for the summer/winter conditions?

What is required by law?

Check your local community about legal requirements.  Most of states and cities require helmets for bike riders and lights on bikes.  Other areas may require bike reflectors and other protective gear such as knee pads while other areas require none of these.

What gear will be the most comfort for my bicycling plan?

What is your cycling plan?  Are you going for a competition? A long cross-country ride? Or just a fun ride in the neighborhood? If you are planning for a long ride, bike shorts with padded seat are great because they offer extra protection and comfort for extensive riding.  Sleeveless cycling jersey is also recommended to keep you cool on long-rides.

However, for mountain bikers, long-sleeve cycling jersey is the best choice to protect their arms from abrasions when riding through brush and trees.

What equipment is best for the summer/winter conditions?

Most of the enthusiastic bicyclers go for a ride in almost all kinds of weather condition, especially if the bike is their primary mode of transportation.  During cold weathers, it advisable to wear a cycling jacket or a wool cycling jersey will keep you warm against the cold air while still keeping you dry by sweeping the sweat away from your skin.  It should be paired with a cycling pants or knee warmers to your knees and legs warm.  Windproof jackets are also great for strong wind and rain protection.

For warm weather, good cycling or bib shorts and a sleeveless jersey will keep you comfortable and cool. Lightweight cycling jacket made of breathable material that incorporates ventilation, in the fabric are ideal for warm weather.
